The Moving on from Leftovers MoFo Roundup

The Moving on from Leftovers MoFo Roundup

The vegan internet is slowly seeing the end of leftovers from that American Thanksgiving hoopla last week (I want more seitan roast!), and while I’m not sick of seeing and eating squash just yet, I’m heading there. That being said, let’s bring on some tempting treats and restaurant fare from today in MoFoland!

How refreshing is this? Gluten Free Frozen Margarita Pie from K & Toby on In the Mood for Noodles in Melbourne.

Bring on the spice and the ‘fu! Stephanie of the Milwaukee Vegan Bake Sale blog shares a hot & saucey looking and sounding recipe for Three Cup Tofu:

Written by two experienced dietitians, this book will help new vegans on their path, or those who might be struggling find their way. I think it would be a great reference for anyone on or considering a vegan diet!

Louise Hagler's Blissy Coconut Dream

Louise Hagler's Blissy Coconut Dream

Here’s the scene, it’s 1990, you’ve just gone vegan, no one has ever heard of seitan and Isa Chandra is nowhere to be seen–you’re all alone, tits, and you’re drowning in nutritional yeast.

I’m guessin’ you’ve figured out  this story is about me, right?  Call it my vegan destiny, but the NFS where I worked sold The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook, and when I laid my hands on it–whoosh zoom zimmy pow–a porthole to veganism suddenly ripped through my galaxy and handed me a whole new repertoire of vegan comfort food:  pancakes, yogurt, grilled cheeze, biscuits, banana bread, chili, spaghetti meatballs and cheezy crackers!  Seriously, without this vegan bible, co-authored by Louise Hagler, and her equally amazing Tofu Cookery, being and staying vegan would have been much, much harder.  I know I’m not the only one that loves Louise Hagler, either.

Twenty years later, and I still crush on this book.  It’s that good.  That’s why I’m so thrilled and delighted at the opportunity to interview Louise Hagler.  Are you with me?  Getting excited?

Thanks to Luna & Larry, not only can you help me come up with some amazing questions to ask her, but you can eat delicious Coconut Bliss ice cream at the same time.  I’m not kidding, I have 2o Coconut Bliss kits ready to ship out, each kit contains two pints of ice cream and a re-usable bag to carry them on your next vegan adventure.  Here’s where you come in, comment on this post with your most awesome questions for Louise, and I will pick my 20 favorite, who will all win cool, creamy, blissy, heavenly, coconutty pints of yum.  I’m giving you until Monday to comment and then it’s all over.  I can’t promise the interview will get published during MoFo, but I’m gonna try–I’m not about to rush the lady who figured out that freezing tofu makes it chewy and neither should you.

Cook on my vegan bubs,

xo kittee
P.S.
Can you please re-tweet, cross-post, and basically pom-pom this entry to death, so we get lots of good MoFo participation for this interview?

P.P.S.  The ice cream offer is only open to those MoFies in the United States or Canada, but you could win for your favorite blog or something!

Opulence… You Makes It

Opulence… You Makes It

Okay, I know some of you are probably thinking “Enough already!” with all this Thanksgiving Take Over of the vegan blogiverse, but for those of you who are still dreaming of mashed potatoes & gravy, you can see a huge round up of many vegan Thanksgiving delights over at Quarry Girl’s blog.

I promise not to do an all-thanksgiving-roundup, but you have just GOT to see this amazing “Tofurken” over at VegSpinz... a combo of all the most popular vegan protein sources, all combined into one opulent roast. It is amazing.

And just one more… check out the glory of this Thanksgiving plate of yums from Vegan Mouse. Mmmmmmm.

On the other hand, maybe you are one of these readers living in the Southern Hemisphere, and craving fruits and cucumbers and ice cream. Well, check out this beautiful blueberry ice cream from Gourmet Caravan (super cute blog header, btw!!)

If you are one of those people who is planning your endless holiday baking projects, why not start with these sugar cookies from Islaborg, or check out Millie’s blog for a whole mofo of cookie recipes?

Or perhaps you are in the mood for something completely different. How about Cambodian Kroeung Tempeh Pan Fried in Banana Leaves??? For Realz.

VeganMoFo Roundup: How Many Days 'Til Pie, Again?

VeganMoFo Roundup: How Many Days 'Til Pie, Again?

I know some people out there are still looking for Thanksgiving ideas, and the big day is swiftly approaching.  Whether you need roadtrip eats like Cold and Sleepy or are reminiscing about the menu from your childhood like Katie, there is plenty of awesome Thanksgiving stuff floating around the vegan blogosphere right now.  It warms the heart.

If you still haven’t finalized your menu, SGCorrie already has one in mind!  Some are opting to scale down the menu, while others want to feast.  Stuffing (or dressing) is always on the menu, though!  Check out this classic onion and sage stuffing recipe from Desdemona.  Or how about this mushroom and spinach one thrown together by Dianne?

A little homemade cranberry sauce would go great with that stuffing!  Sherry is throwing all sorts of orange goodness in her sauce.

I can’t really talk pre-Thanksgiving without talking gravy.  Tofu Mom’s apple pecan bourbon gravy sounds most excellent!  In fact, her entire MoFo theme is gravy!  Does it get any better than that?

Well, maybe if we’re throwing in some rolls.  I can’t believe I missed these butterflake rolls until now!  I’m also a huge sucker for veganizing family favorites and Meggie veganized her great grandmother’s rolls!

Nothing goes with a dinner roll like a delicious bowl of soup.  The Coburn Family made a comforting one out of autumn root vegetables.  And over at Vegan and Awesome there is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make easy homemade broth out of veggie scraps!

If you still haven’t settled on a Thanksgiving dessert, why not make something not-so-traditional?  Take a look at Rachwins sticky toffee pudding or the poached pear chestnut gallettes at New Vegan Table.

That’s all for now!  I’m going to continue my days-until-pie countdown.  Mmm.  Happy MoFoing, everybody!
