The VeganMoFo 2016 Survey

The VeganMoFo 2016 Survey

Thank you all for participating, commenting, liking, and sharing posts this past November! We love seeing your creativity and we’re so glad to see the vegan community grow stronger as well as larger.

We want to keep growing and improving VeganMoFo, too – and we need your input to do it! Please take a few moments to fill out this 10 question survey and let us know what you think about things we’re doing well, things we could do better, and new features you’d like to see added. You can also place your vote for which month VeganMoFo 2017 should be!

We’d like feedback from anyone and everyone! If you didn’t participate in VeganMoFo but follow us on social media, if you officially or unofficially participated, or something else. It’s all good! We are interested in any and all ideas and perspectives.

As a thank you, we will randomly select one respondent to win a cookbook of your choice. This prize is open internationally. If you are under 18, we’ll need your parents permission to mail you the prize. You can choose any in-print vegan cookbook, not just the ones pictured here.

The survey is open from now until 6pm EST on Sunday, December 18th. A winner, as well as the month for VeganMoFo 2017, will be announced on January, 1st 2017.

Thank you again for making VeganMoFo such a special and awesome part of the vegan community!

Week Three Round Up 2016

Week Three Round Up 2016

 @HappyLittleLunch

Week three was all about ROYGBIV, and boy did you get creative!

Monday, November 14th: Monochrome

@pepajobo
If you’re going to go monochrome, purple is a lovely way to do it!

@clare.burgess
And this all green sandwich has such a serene (and most certainly beautiful) quality, doesn’t it?

@myzoetropeeats
This Raspberry Chia Jam is so lovely I want it as a paint color. (And also in my mouth! The jam. Not the paint.)

Tuesday, November 15th: Multicolor

@danielle.marie.atkins
I will go to any cookout where there are rainbow veggie kebabs. Invite me, I will show up. Let’s make this happen.

theveganfoodnerd
Pizza is always an excellent opportunity to get in all the colors you can!

@sophigramme
It may not have ALL the colors, but I love the care and style in presentation of this delicious Broccoli “Cheddar” Soup!

Wednesday, November 16th: Complementary Colors

@veggiessavetheday
There is so much going on here! The beautiful contrast of red on green – and there must be a lot of interesting flavor and textural contrast too.

Plant Based Living
The orange and green in this looks so bright and inviting. And this vegan vegetable scampi sounds absolutely delicious!

@lisarturner
These homemade vegan gumdrops look like such a special treat. And those colors!

Thursday, November 17th: A Rare Color

My Apologies for the Novel
Maybe we’d all be happier if we had cheery yellow dinners like this more often!

@whoawren
Lauren didn’t identify any of the colors here as rare, but savory waffles certainly are… by the looks of this they shouldn’t be.

@degroenekeuken
Who cares what color it is, these mushroom and caramelized onion burgers look ah-MAZE-ing!

Friday, November 18th: Greyscale

Deer Run B&B
How amazing do these black and white aquafaba meringues look!? I am blown away!

@dauliflower
Danielle has done an excellent job of highlighting the universal appeal that is a vegan donut.

justbloggs
We would be remiss not to enjoy some lovely, and naturally B&W sushi!sushi-bw1

Saturday, November 19th: Goth Day

@veganistamama
I love the commitment to goth in these tamales: black beans, blue cornmeal, and blueberry mole.

@rubbercowgirl
This purple and blue curry is seriously moody and darkly beautiful.

@nicolearciello
I feel like there is something inherently goth about coffee, and these Coffee Chip Cookies fill the depths of my dark, cold, soul with a tiny flame of happiness. Or something. Whatever.

Sunday, November 20th: It’s Easy Being Green

@emmholmess
Green + smoothie bowl? It was meant to be. Em does an amazing job with this one!

Chunky on Chia
Raw Chocolate Mint Ice Cream Cake? Uh, YES.IMG_20160310_093954

@tessalita
Kale chips! Because, vegan. (Also because delicious.)

Now we’re getting all ready for the holidays in Week 4! Food memories and traditions are on deck!

VeganMoFo 2016 Blogrolls!

VeganMoFo 2016 Blogrolls!

Hi everyone! I hope you’re really excited about taking part in this year’s VeganMoFo. Both about taking part – and discovering new vegan blogs and accounts to follow!

Throughout the month we will be posting round ups of our favourite posts, but another great way to find sites to follow is via our blogroll pages.

First, we have the Official 2016 Blogroll. If you signed up for VeganMoFo 2016, you’re on there! Separated into categories of web blogs, YouTube accounts, Twitter accounts, Facebook accounts, and Instagram accounts, there are hundreds of different vegans you can discover. You can follow blogs via services like Feedly, or follow social media accounts on their own platform.

Next is the Around the World blogroll. Want to discover great food from a different country? You can find the VeganMoFo 2016 participants listed by country here.

If you are a little tired of English, visit our By Language blogroll. Those on this list post in a different language – some post in English also, but you can find a language to suit you!

If you’re in the United States, you can find MoFo’ers near you by checking out the By State blogroll. From Arizona to Washington, we have people taking part from all over the country.

Sadly, it was recently announced that The PPK – the birthplace of VeganMoFo – is closing soon. But if you are a member of the forum there, you can find your fellow forum members on the PPK MoFo’ers blogroll. Make the most of them while you can!

We also have a list of those doing VeganMoFo for the first time this year. Check out our First Time MoFo’ers blogroll and go and give them some support!

And finally, we have the Social Media blogroll. Would you rather check Instagram than read blogs? Stick to 140 characters on Twitter? Watch a video on YouTube, or follow a page on Facebook? Use this blogroll to find people to follow!

Media Alert! Spread the news of VeganMoFo ’16!

Media Alert! Spread the news of VeganMoFo ’16!

Hey everyone! I hope you’re excited for VeganMoFo. There’s not long to go now! Don’t forget, you have until the 21st October – this Friday! – to sign up for this year’s event. Sign up here! For those of you who have signed up (or are about to!) we have prepared a media alert for you to share. This is so that you can alert local and international press sources as to what is going on – and get some recognition for your MoFo’ing efforts!

corn2016-1

Here’s what to do:

  1. First things first, sign on up for VeganMoFo 2016
  2. Think & go Google search: What are the local media avenues in my community (state, country, district, town, county, area, favorite blogs, online news sources, etc.)? Is there an alt weekly? Is there a monthly, city-wide cultural magazine and/or website? Where do you see local food & dining news? For example, someone in Portland, OR, would send this to Eater PDX (and there are a ton of Eater sites out there!), Willamette Week, Portland Mercury, Oregonian FoodDay, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Portland Monthly Magazine and a bunch of their favorite culinary-focused blogs. Plus, the huge local vegetarian outreach group, Northwest Veg, other vegan-friendly events that have caught their eye, and maybe, The Kitchn, Serious Eats, and so on. Someone in the UK might send the alert to VegFest UK or one of the vegan magazines in the country! If you’ve been involved with media outlets/events, who are your contacts? Do you have friends that work in PR? Are they relevant and could they help get the word out? Do they like vegan cookies?  Is there a VegFest? Basically, find out their contact email/fax (right?! You can totally send faxes for free online these days in case you actually want to do that). Take note that there is typically a contact specifically *for* media alerts and press releases and calendar info with the bigger outlets. Go cover your ground and spread the word! These days, there are many vegan companies who post through social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc) and you can also send this alert in a message to them if you like – look for local vegan groups and pages, perhaps shops that regularly post vegan “news” articles, and anyone else who you think might be interested!
  3. Edit and download a personalized or general copy of the official VeganMoFo Media Alert, as linked below.
  4. Save the (ideally revised) Media Alert as a PDF with a clearly marked file name, for example “Media Advisory: VeganMoFo, The Vegan Month of Food Writing Returns November 2016″
  5. Next, copy/paste the Media Alert content into the actual email message from title down. I like to do this, it doubles your chances of being read. At the top, if I know who it’s going to well, I’ll often include a little note in a different font and color and sign it, like “Hey Darleen, I’d love for you to take a look at this news! I’ve got a whole month of xxx in store and daily updates! Let me know if you would like more information or photos for a story” (or something a little less lame then that, but I hope you get the point).
  6. Make sure you’ve attached a copy of the Media Alert PDF (or Word Doc or whatever you prefer) to the email itself.
  7. Press send and let that baby fly, preferably one at a time, but one big blind BCC can do in a pinch (sorry, old college marketing professors, it’s 2016 and I’m busy!)

And here’s how to do it! There are two versions of our shiny, official Media Alert all ready to go below:

OPTION 1) We’ve got the official Media Alert ready to be personalized right this way and copied below. It is super important to make sure you personalize the red area!

OPTION 2) Here’s a straightforward Media Alert to share as is.

So, get sharing, and get preparing for Vegan MoFo 2016!

GIVEAWAY – Vegan Bowls by Zsu Dever

GIVEAWAY – Vegan Bowls by Zsu Dever

Vegan Bowls Zsu's Vegan Pantry_Vegan Bowls

*** This contest is now closed! Thank you for all the entrees! *****

Hey everyone! This is Zsu Dever (the author of the book above, Vegan Bowls, and your Round Up host this year). I was so excited to be able to do all the weekly mofo Round Ups this year because it gave me the best excuse to be on the computer and have a legit answer to give my husband when asked what I was doing on the computer so much! Work, dear. (probably unfair to call this work, ey?)

As some of you may have heard, my new cookbook was just released a few weeks ago (two, to be precise, but who’s counting) and so, basically, this has been a pretty awesome month for me: mofo and new cookbook.

And that’s when the light bulb went off and I decided to combine the two: giveaway on mofo!

For those who are not familiar with the cookbook I mention, it is full of over 90 bowl dishes – all complete meals (with vegetable, starch and protein) and most can be made in under 45 minutes (but more take around 30).

I incorporated a new way of cooking into this book and you prep as you go (multi-task) and therefore make the whole cooking process faster.

If you’d like a complete table of contents, look HERE.

And to give you an idea of what is in the book, a few pics:

Green and White Chili Zsu's Vegan Pantry_Vegan Bowls Hungarian Breakfast Bowl Zsu's Vegan Pantry Lemon-Caper Cannellini Couscous Bowl Seitan Gyro Bowl Zsu's Vegan Pantry Spinach Salad with Warm Pecan Zsu's Vegan Pantry_Vegan Bowls

I’m pretty proud of it and, like I said, very excited.

*** This contest is now closed! Thank you for all the entrees! *****

So much so that I am giving away a copy of Vegan Bowls INTERNATIONALLY.

Leave a comment below about bowl food or what you thought of the new mofo prompts this year, and I’ll let Random.org pick a comment. Easy as a vegan bowl of yumminess.

Fourth Week Round Up of 2015

Fourth Week Round Up of 2015

The fourth week is upon us. Are you still here? We have a few giveaways still coming up so keep posting and checking back.

Zsu here, back for one last final shindig of Vegan MoFo 2015.

Did you notice the trend this past week was full of pumpkins, fall colors and autumn flavors and spring produce and vibrant colors (Different strokes for different hemispheres.) This week’s prompts brought us….

TWENTY-FIRST DAY: Endless Food Supply When Stranded on an Island

I personally found it ironically funny that vegans were now stranding other vegans on islands, as if the omni world hasn’t been abandoning us quite well themselves.

The consensus among the folks I visited during this prompt was that, sure, we can all have three things to bring, but, by golly, we are all going to be on the SAME island having the best time!

Dandelion Vegan Blog

DVB is starting things off with the most important supplemental item: Beer. Pickles. And, frankly, even they lost interest in deciding on the final item. Beer and pickles. The stuff of life.

VeganBeer2

Vegan Varg

After we have the best first night on our piece of paradise drinking beer and eating pickles, VV makes sure we can wake up in the morning and harvest our delectable produce (remember that those are supplied by the powers that be) by providing the coffee. And to keep things chugging along at a cool pace, ice cream bars and chocolate are also part of their plan.

Rock My Vegan Socks

RMVS decided to go a different direction; she is not just bringing ingredients, oh no! She went full throttle and is bringing cupcakes, sandwiches and pad thai. That’s making sure we will not starve when we don’t feel like island cooking. Sweet.

TWENTY-SECOND DAY: Dish Using All Seasonal Produce

Kelli’s Vegan Kitchen

This autumn, Kelli whips out her Caramel Apple Buckwheat Waffles. Not much more need be said about this autumn breakfast/snack staple. Caramel Sauce over a crisp waffle and Coconut Whipped Cream.

Vegan4One

V4O used the produce from backyard gardens and made this tart Green Tomato Pasta Sauce. What more seasonal produce is there than one that comes directly from the garden? Love it!

Vie De La Vegan

Well, all the autumn colors and flavors are lovely, but there is a whole other hemisphere on this rock we inhabit, and they are going through spring. VDLV threw together this gorgeous Spring Spinach Salad, including avocado and borage flowers.

TWENTY-THIRD DAY: Autumn Equinox Eats

Le Lapin Qui Mange (The Rabbit Eats)

LLQM makes a great point: autumn is almost here and we should make sure to get in a few more vegan dogs before summer wanes completely. I’m all in.

The Vegan Word

While not following the prompts, TVW fell in sync with the prompts when she made this video about an appropriate equinox staple: Butternut Squash Soup.

Vegan Vera

Showing us that smoothies are not just a spring indulgence, VV makes their autumn smoothies using apples, pears, bananas and spinach.

TWENTY-FOURTH DAY: Famous [dude/dudette] Would Eat as a Vegan

Cute prompt! You guys had some great ideas about who to veganize (which is the alternative way of thinking about this prompt)

Herbivore’s Heaven

HH enjoyed feeding Brithish national treasure Mary Barry a vegan feast (and I really mean a feast!) of scones, cakes, sandwiches and all sorts of treats. I really can’t do this any sort of justice. Take a look — this is all for two people:

Veganopoulous

Among the splendid (and, again, I mean splendid!) spread being served up to famous people, Dolly Parton has it made over at Veganopoulous HQ.  I will show you just one of the dishes, and I do this because you must see this :

“Like Swedish dishes such as Semla, because they look like– WAIT FOR IT– islands in the stream:”

Tracy’s Living Cookbook

Tracy chose an infamous anti-vegan to feed, which is pretty neat as, indeed, it would be spectacular if Ted Nuget gave into compassion and became an ethical vegan. Here’s hoping! Maybe if he sees Tracy’s Great White Buffalo Dip!

TWENTY-FIFTH DAY: Share Your Favorite Cuisine

My first find for favorite cuisine had many hits. In fact, I dare say, conducting an unofficial survey, this cuisine comes in at a pretty strong first place. Indian! Just two blogs that I found with this choice:

That’s it for another week of round ups, folks! The last complete week of the 2015 MoFo Season. There are only 3 more prompts to go, so if you are still posting, keep it up! And if you are not posting (sadly, I have seen a few blogs fall to the side), keep supporting others in MoFo land and visit them and comment.

Also, we have TWO more giveaways to conduct, so check back here often! You won’t regret it!

This is Zsu from Zsu’s Vegan Pantry signing off. Good night (or day)!
