aFRO-vEGANBryant Terry is one of the most captivating vegan cookbook authors in the US. His books are always full of storytelling, music suggestions, and involved techniques that really put you in touch with a recipe in a more holistic way than just following directions. In that way, he’s kind of like my favorite food bloggers which makes his books a joy to read. Here is a great review of what you can expect to find inside from Beard and Bonnet who had it as her veganmofo book of the week on September 4th. I’ve heard really positive comments from everyone who has this book including our own Gabrielle who says “the dukkah cornbread is life-changing”. I love African, Caribbean, and Southern food and Bryant Terry’s use of seasonal produce and greens in almost every recipe will make it a winner for many mofo-ers out there who love to cook.

If you are interested in winning a copy of the book please have a US address, leave an email that you check in the form below, and ANSWER ME THIS QUESTION: What song would best fit your style in the kitchen. I’ll pick a winner tomorrow!

  1. The song that best represents my kitchen style is Safety Dance by Men Without Hats. My kitchen is full of kids and cooking and people and wine and doing everything at once but being laid back at the same time.

  2. The song that represents my style in the kitchen is “Love Connection” by Raheem DeVaughn. I love to cook especially for my loved ones and I believe that food is a love connection – especially when it’s healthy.

  3. A song for me in the kitchen currently would be anything by the Avett Brothers is always fun and calming, but specifically Kick Drum Heart. 🙂

  4. My kitchen song is “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)” by Major Lazer because cayenne and curry are in the building, and I’m not afraid to use them!

  5. My song would definitely be “I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl” by Nina Simone, even though the song isn’t about… ahem… baking, I do enjoy the sweeter things in life.

  6. When I was a kid, I wrote a song all about potatoes – all the different ways they can be prepared, and how amazing they are. While the exact lyrics are lost to the ages, this pretty much remains my kitchen theme song. 🙂

  7. Do My Thing- Estelle ft. Janelle Monae!
I recently went vegan and my large, very southern family think I’m weird- but a few say they are willing to check it out if I make them something really tasty 🙂

  8. “Maniac” from the movie “Flashdance” because vegetables are flying everywhere! I try to clean as I go but sometimes I get so excited about the end flavors result, that I go crazy and kitchen be damned!

  9. The music that best fits my style in the kitchen would be a combination of jazz, funk and reggae. I love experimenting with spices mixed with fruit and veg especially those from Carribean, Jamaica and Haiti. My song choice is always Soul Makossa by Manu Dibango

  10. It’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine) by R.E.M. – somewhat anarchic and all over the place, but I’m always extremely happy doing it 😀

  11. My kitchen song would I Feel Free by Cream, cooking is liberating, expressive, and anything you want to make out of it… literally. When I’m in the kitchen there are no boundaries.

  12. Giveaway! Yeah. Describe myself in the kitchen? Well, this is a very old song “They’re Coming to Take Me Away to the Funny Farm.” No kidding, I’m mad scientist central, what have I got? What can I throw in there? That tastes nasty, what can I add? Kitchen smitchen. 🙂

  13. Any song from the 80s that I can dance to while cooking. Bonus points if I know the words and can use a wooden spoon or spatula as a microphone.

  14. The Veggie Tales theme song… yes, I know all the words and will randomly break into song about lima beans and collard greens!

  15. We’re Gonna Rock This Town – Stray Cats

Rockabilly is my vibe! And cooking up vegan food that will rock people’s socks off is what I aim to do!

  16. I go to work by Kool Moe Dee. I often cook in bulk and between my allergies and being a vegetarian, preparing food is both a joy and serious business.

  17. “Meanwhile Back At Mama’s” by Tim McGraw. It evokes all the memories I have of growing up in a happy Southern home, and I want my daughter to have all of those same memories.
