GIVEAWAY- Cheers to Vegan Sweets

This Giveaway is Closed
cheers to vegan sweetsOne of my favorite veganmofo themes this year is Kelly Peloza’s Seitan Beats Your Meat. All month long she has been posting amazing Mad Men inspired recipes and photos and since I recently just re-watched the whole show it’s super fresh in my mind. It’s so fun to relive the whole show through vegan food!

Kelly is also a cookbook author and her newest book “Cheers to Vegan Sweets” is going to be available November 1st. All the recipes are inspired by cocktails like Bloody Mary Biscuits and Margarita Ice Cream or beverages like Apple Cider Donuts & Mexican Coffee Truffles. I’ve looked through the book and it’s gorgeous. There are full-page photographs throughout and the chapters are set up intelligently into sections like “The Café”, “The Lemonade Stand”, and “The Cocktail Lounge”.

Even though the book isn’t available until November 1st Fair Winds is giving away a copy to a luck mo-foer with an address in the US, Canada or the UK. All you have to do is tell me a cocktail or beverage that should never ever be turned into a dessert. Like a Kombucha filled doughnut. Please leave an email that you check in the comments too!

  1. Hull-Clean. Sorry, “Heathers” reference.

I’m going to say Sex on the Beach – not because it’s gross; just because it’s the worst name for a cocktail ever.

  2. I had to go look up some cocktails because I don’t drink that much. After very little research, it is easy to say that a Hot Mexican Hooker sounds horrible (in soooo many ways). It’s apparently tequila, tabasco, and the juice from a can of tuna.

Now, fix me up with a peach bellini or rattlesnake dessert, and I’m there!

  3. Is saying rubbing alcohol cheating? How about lucozade frosting then. The original orange one. You get the feeling it helps you run longer but it still tastes like someone overdosed on sweets and threw up. It also has the bonus of being disconcertingly orange.

  4. I have to agree with Mamachandra about the clamato!

I think the worst thing to make into dessert would be the fermented camel milk drink (shubat) from central asia.

This book looks amazing- thanks for the giveaway! I’ve never met something lemonade flavoured I didn’t love!

  5. Lager – a pint of slightly frothy, cold, hop-flavoured yuck should never be turned into anything other than wee wee 🙂

  6. I made an Irn Bru sponge cake with Irn Bru frosting once, hoping to create a Scottish twist on Chocolate Coca-Cola cake. It ranks among the worst things I’ve ever made in my life!

  7. I feel like kombucha doughnut basically wins, and I actually like kombucha. But I persevered! I’m not super familiar with cocktails so I had to do a little research.

And then I had to stop when I found the LOBSTERITA. Which is a margarita with lobster in it. LOBSTERITA ANYTHING, ugh.

    1. The two times I’ve been forced to go to Red Lobster (seafood chain in Canada, maybe US too?), there was nothing I could eat, other than a side salad. Instead, I opted to drink a “mega-lobsterita” which is a jumbo sized margarita, thankfully without lobster. If you can’t beat ’em, get a little bit tipsy!

  8. My first choice would have been a bloody mary, but since that’s taken I also think that a dessert based upon a dirty martini would be a dreadful.

  9. I immediately thought of Bloody Mary, but so did a lot of people. Another one that strikes me as fairly obvious but I don’t see answered yet is a martini. Olive? Onion? No. NO.

  10. Hmmmm…. the creativity of vegan chefs always inspires me, so I’d try almost anything. But I don’t think anyone should honestly attempt to make a dessert inspired by a wheatgrass shot. Stop while you’re ahead!

  11. Tomato juice/V8 cookies. Or pie. Or ice cream —>>> yuck! Especially ice cream! I refuse to try any savory ice creams…

  12. I don’t really drink cocktails so I’m not sure what would make a bad dessert, but I do love baking sweets! Thanks for offering such a great giveaway!

  13. I was looking for something to do with homemade Irish cream, and I came across quite a few cocktail recipes that should never be. The worst was called something like an Irish curdling cow – Bailey’s, vodka, bourbon, orange juice, and milk. Those things should never be consumed together in any form.
