Happy Wednesday everyone! Panda here. We have a great giveaway today. The vegan jewelry shop Art By Susmitha is offering a lovely vegan superstar unisex pendant for 1 lucky winner.

The pendant is a 1.25 inch copper disc with a hammered texture and stamped with the word vegan. A smaller brass star is attached with a stamped letter v. It’s been fired to give a patina that shows off the hammer marks and makes the letters pop. It’s a perfect way to make a subtle vegan statement and start a conversation about your veganism. It would also make a wonderful gift for the proud vegan in your life.

Happy Sunday! We have another exciting giveaway for you today! Joni Marie Newman is offering up her new book Going Vegan, co-authored with Gerrie Lynn Adams.

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in a vegan diet, or who is trying to incorporate more vegan recipes into their meal planning. Joni and Gerrie talk about choosing veganism from an animal rights perspective as well as environmental and health aspects. They also give ideas for meal planning, helpful to both new and old vegans.

If you know Joni’s other books, then you know there will be plenty of amazing recipes. Grilled citrus cauliflower steaks? Super stacked veggie burgers? Crispy toaster waffles? As we swing through the first week of MoFo I’m happy to announce a great giveaway from The Better Bean Company! They first came to my attention at the Vida Vegan Conference and I’ve been loving their products ever since.

The Better Bean Company currently offers five different flavors of pre-seasoned, ready to eat beans. The uncanny refried black beans are great to heat and spread on a tortilla with toppings to make tacos or roll up a burrito. The vegan blogosphere has been abuzz all summer with the new products coming out from Earth Balance. Many vegan bakers have relied on their baking sticks for years but in the past year Earth Balance has been releasing a line of popcorn, chips, and crackers that are garnering a lot of attention.

Community Building During Vegan MoFo

Greetings friends! We get a lot of questions leading up to and during MoFo and thought we’d answer some in short blog posts for your edification.

Today Panda is here to address some related questions we hear a lot. How will people find my blog? No one is commenting on my blog. Why isn’t anyone reading it?

We have hundreds of bloggers signing up for Vegan MoFo every year, so it can be hard to be found and be noticed. There are some simple tricks to help get your blog into the flow of the Vegan MoFo community.

First up, make sure you are reading and commenting on other MoFo blogs. This is huge! Mollyjade on the PPK had a challenge one year to comment on x number of new-to-you blogs per day for MoFo. It’s a great way to see who else is out there in blogland and to start building connections. The more you get to know people, the more fun it is to follow along.

Second, make sure you keep on blogging! If you just put up one post and then don’t post again because you aren’t getting comments, you still won’t get comments. Communities are built over time and it can take a while for your blog name to get out there.

And last, write posts that are of interest to you. Find your own voice. If you’re writing content that is interesting to you and engaging to others, the readers will come. Not everyone is going to read your blog, but there will be some out there who will like your voice and style and will be clicking refresh waiting for your next post.

Comes The Deluge

We’re getting the end of a monsoon here in the pacific northwest and the rain has been pouring and the streets have been flooding all weekend. I am rounding up a herd of cats to flee with me on my ark and have picked some delectable comfort food meals that I am hoping the cats will prepare for me as we sail on.

They are going to get their little paws all floured up and bang out some breakfast pancakes like Vegan In Brighton while I lounge in the captain’s quarters drinking tea.

Afro Vegan Chick is cooking up hearty bowls of carrot potato ginger soup, and I am sure the cats will have no problem chopping up a ton of roots for a luncheon stew.

If they do have a problem, we’ll go to plan B, which is mac ‘n’ cheese veggie dog bites from Vegan Yack Attack. Or maybe even both, as I will need my strength to steer us ever onward.

For dinner I want a big ol’ pile of mashed potatoes and meatloaf. Vegan Crunk served up this recipe from Betty Goes Vegan and I have absolute faith that cats are good at shaping up loaves.

For dessert I am counting on these apple butter stuffed donut holes from Veg-Am. By the time I have stuffed myself all day I hope the rains have abated and we can step back on to dry land where I will be queen of the cat colony.

I do love a good cookie.

Amy from Vegan Eats and Treats has my favourite chocolate chip cookie up with a story to boot. The secret is in the extra vanilla.

Cupcake Kitteh made the fabulous black and white cookie. Like a little bit of NYC on Sunday.

Brown sugar and apple butter sandwich cookies? I am on my way over to Too Cheap For Pinenuts for a snack.

Cookies that are a food stuffed into another food? Seitan Is My Motor has got it going on.

International Sunday

Panda here this Sunday and every Sunday for your Vegan MoFo good time round up.

There’s an abundance of people joining in MoFo this year blogging in different languages and in different countries. I wanted to highlight some of them in my Sunday roundup because I love seeing vegans representing world wide.

In German is Seitan is My Motor, who is spending the month veganizing classic German desserts, such as these cinnamon rolls.

These beautiful potatoes are from the Dutch blog Plantaardigheidjes and I love how thinly sliced they are. The color is just gorgeous.

Emmas Vegoblogg in Sweden is serving up some Indian spiced pasta which sounds mighty fine.

From Vietnam is Viet Nam an Chay with a gorgeous pile of stir fried veggies. This looks so fresh and good, perfect for summer in the US.

Interpretations Culinaires is blogging in both French and English and has some super looking tempeh nuggets up. If you put it in nugget form I will try it.
