VeganMoFo Roundup: Check Out the Greenery

VeganMoFo Roundup: Check Out the Greenery

With the ultimate brown meal (a.k.a. Thanksgiving) coming our way next week, I decided to do a roundup with a bunch of green in it.  Oddly enough, there’s no salad here.  Not really, anyway.

First up, I am seriously impressed with all the canning that’s going on this MoFo season.  Y’all have me wanting to make my own jam, preserve some vegetables, and whip up my very own salsa like Paula over at Salt and Humor.  How can you look at this salsa verde and not want this deliciousness?!

Guess who else is slangin’ salsa?  None other than Erin32MC!  Check out this delicious looking apple mango salsa that’s being served up at Vegan Mom.

All of that salsa was making me thirsty so I was super stoked to see Allysia’s green dragon juice over at Super Vegan.  It looks delicious!  Know what goes great with dragon juice?  I’m guessing some silky smooth broccoli and cheddar soup brought to you by Seitanic Squirrel!

That soup looks perfect for a sick day…as does the loverly yummies going on at Milwaukee Vegan Bake Sale.  Be sure to wish Stephanie well because she’s feeling a little under the weather.

Now the flavor tour is headed east with this super duper lip smackin’ ginger tofu from Spabettie!  Lookit how glorious this is:

Now, if you are looking for something a bit more soup-like then prepare to drool.  Jen has a little pho porn for you.  No recipe, but enough photographic detail for you to flip your lid!

Of course, I couldn’t end this roundup without a little raw food love.  I was seriously drooling when I saw the raw bibimbap over at Raw Bento.  Yu Ming, I’m coming by for dinner!

That’s all for now.  Happy Tuesday, y’all!

VeganMoFo Roundup: To the Tune of "Let It Snow"

VeganMoFo Roundup: To the Tune of "Let It Snow"

The weather outside’s delightful, and the fire is nonexistent.  Sipping tea while I catch up with y’all.  Must be fall!  Must be fall!  Must be Fall!

Apologies for the jingle, but these are words that actually came into my head.  I am on a weather high because this was the second day in a row that my air conditioner was off.  Wooo!  All I want to do is curl up on the couch with my dogs and watch dvds.  So, this roundup is brought to you by things-I’d-like-to-eat-while-having-Buffy-marathons.  I suppose I’ll move over on the couch so you can come too.

I can’t think crisp weather without thinking chili.  Jes over at Your Mom’s a Vegan (fabulous name, by the way) has some served up just the way I like it…with avocado!  Not to play favorites or anything, but she’s doing amazing things with acorn squash as well!

The only thing that could rival chili on a day like today is some good lookin’ shepherd’s pie.  Check out the one over at Wiecej Yofu.  It’s in Polish, but there is an English version of the recipe.  Seriously…check out the yumminess:

If you’re not down with making savory pies and chili has too much spice, why not have a little spaghetti?  Vegan Today is making some and promised a bit for everybody…and it’s covered in nooch*!  What, what?!

All this savory needs a little sweet.  Am I right?  Well, Vegan Whore has been baking up a storm and has a review (and pictures!) for The Vegan Cookie Connoisseur.  If cookies aren’t your thing, seriously check out the fluffy gingerbread scones that Julia’s making over at Snarky Vegan.  She’s even got some beer and cheddar Bisquick biscuits, yo.  Of course, you have to wash down the sugar with even more sugar.  Did you know there are places in the world that still have access to Vitasoy’s peppermint chocolate soymilk?  My heart sank a bit when I saw the proof over at Thoughtful Vittles.

To soften the blow, I offer you this most delectable dish from Nicole at Mmm Mmm Vegan.  It’s this creamy pasta sauce with rotini, broccoli, leeks, kalamatas, and a whole bunch of awesome!

Finally, I leave you with a most awesome documentation of a visit to Free Soul Caffé.  Wok on the Wildside shows all the great goodies a person can get at this strictly vegan establishment.  It all looks great, but I’d kill to live in this sandwich.

Happy Thursday to all!  Keep up the good work!

Vegan MoFo Round Up 4: It's Not Unusual…

Vegan MoFo Round Up 4: It's Not Unusual…

Yes, I have Tom Jones on the brain now.  Thought I’d spread the wealth.  This round up is brought to you mostly by unique and awesome posts.  Sometimes awesome blog names.  Also…an extreme lack of sleep.

Let’s just hit it out of the park on the first pitch, shall we?  I stumbled upon Joe’s blog because I really thought the fellas deserved a little love and found the most amazing/intriguing thing that I’ve seen yet.  Chocolate covered garlic.  Wrap that around your heads, people!  Amazing!  Need proof?  Take a look at this picture:

Speaking of the fellas, I really am so in love with John P’s theme this year.  Check out his caraway bread!  He’s making recipes from vintage cookbooks!  Such an interesting idea.  I love learning about what people used to eat and how much food has evolved.  I’m just thankful we aren’t setting things in jello molds anymore.  Brrr.  Perfection salad.

Not to be outdone, Mr. Bran got into the kitchen and fixed his Panda some delicious looking Bisquick pancakes.  Ain’t no shame in his game!  Also, if he had opposable thumbs I’m pretty sure this would be the time for a z-formation snap.

As a lover of all things related to vegan cheeses, imagine my surprise when I saw a huge post on Nice Things where Ditte breaks down her absolute favorite cheeses!  Homemade, store bought, it’s all there!  I had to wash down all the cheese love with an equally impressive bruschetta and cheese covered flatbread that I saw on Zombie Cats Eating Plants.  Not only is the name great, but it’s like Amber wants me to come over for dinner!

Another blog name that caught my eye and gave me a good chuckle was Babes in Soyland.  Check out Kayla’s post on the vegan sausage maple waffle.  Why aren’t there more handheld vegan waffle sandwiches?

Finally, I bring you my love of sweet potatoes!  I seriously adore anything savory made with this delicious tuber.  Imagine my shock when I saw that Pavani from Cook’s Hideout had created none other than sweet potato naan!  So excited!!!!

Well that’s all for now.  Happy Thursday, everybody!

Party Foodz Roundup 10/29

Party Foodz Roundup 10/29

Whether you are throwing your first vegan potluck like Melissa or you’re a seasoned pro at hosting shindigs, this time of year seems to bring the party out of people.  With Halloween around the corner and the rest of the holidays coming up, I thought it would be nice to do a roundup of some great party ideas!

Since Saturday is fast approaching, why not get a candy making party together?  Have your friends come over and do all the hard work under the guise that fun will be had!  Muahahaha.

Or you can get the spook in by serving your Halloween guests these gnarly eyeballs courtesy of Allyson at Manifest Vegan!  Mmm.  Just look at ’em staring back at you.

Maybe you want to, heh, charm your guests instead of scaring them.  Use some not-so-wicked magic with this fantastic book o’ spells from our very own Jeni Treehugger!

I don’t know who decided that parties have to be super extravagant.  Why not invite some friends over for some alphabet tots?  But if you want to be all fancy, here is a cool idea that makes any party look like a million bucks: float some pomegranate seeds in a glass of sparkling dranky drank like Kat Reeves did.

Of course, desserts are a must at any decent party.  Lisa Marie uses leftover pie filling to make these fantastic pumpkin pie cups!

For the chocoholic in us all, take a gander at these babies.  Chocolate Truffles from Herbivore Dinosaur!

For the more advanced party hostess/host, why not throw a Vegan Chopped Challenged.  Test your cooking skills and entertain your friends with your supreme food geekery!  Best picture ever:

Make sure you don’t forget the dips!  Everybody loves a good layer dip and Jessica made a killer one.

And a party isn’t a party until the hummus shows up!  Look at all this chickpea and tahini action.  Mmm.

Hope you got some great ideas for the holiday season.  With only a few days left, I just wanted to say it’s been a pleasure MoFos.  Y’all are an awesome bunch!  Also, have a safe and happy Halloween!

Well, we only have a week to go and I wanted to do a Halloween roundup but there is hardly any Halloweeny love!  What’s all this, please?  So this MoFo is brought to you by things that are made of awesome.

Andrea from Very Vegan Holiday is getting ready for a huge party.  She’s got some great ideas in tune with the holiday spirit.  Just look at these fabulous pumpkin bat cookies.

Nothing calls to me quite like a delicious brunch or brinner.  If you say “waffles,” I’m there!  So, naturally, I gasped when I saw these.waffles

Ooh!  Check out this badass giveaway from Jeanette at Vessels and Wares.  Awesome VeganMoFo merch!giveaway

Put Your Mind to It, Go For It Roundup 10/15

Put Your Mind to It, Go For It Roundup 10/15

What the what do Hot Sundae lyrics have to do with this roundup?  Well, we are half way through the month and I just wanted to offer a little encouragement!  Go TEAM!  Plus, the tight-fitting 80s spandex was reminding me that I really like all the healthy eating going on right now.  And, no, I’m not talking about chomping on caffeine pills.  It’s fall and I usually gravitate towards warm comfort food, but my body also longs for healthy things.

We all need a little something to balance out the yummy baked goods, and I figure what better way than with more baked goods.  Check out these wonderfully healthy apple spice muffins over at the Whole Food Vegan.  Nothing is better than a muffin this time of year.  Except maybe washing it down with a spicy, zingy, and oh-so-soothing sip of lemon ginger tea, courtesy of the Messy Vegetarian Cook.

Ginger & Lemon Tea

Look at it.  Doesn’t it just make you wish you were in your jammies all snuggled up with a book…or laptop?

Maybe you’re more of an on-the-go type.  There are plenty of super simple and healthy options.  Matt’s confetti pasta salad had me drooling.  How could so much greatness be in one salad?!

If pasta is a little too “cooked” for your liking, please check out Whitney’s scary raw burrito.  Don’t worry.  It’s not going to bite your face off or anything…unless you want it to.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a healthy roundup without a little soup and salad lovin’.  Nothing reminds me of my youth more than a good tomato soup.  Mmm mmm great.  Tess delivers a recipe for a simple and soothing nod to a childhood favorite.  For those of you looking for more of an Asian flare, why not try Zoa’s miso soup with vegetables and yuba.

I hope you’re not hungry yet, because it doesn’t stop there.  Check out Amanda using kohlrabi for the first time in this amazing salad!  She did her thug thizzle, as the youth like to say.

Of course, we can’t think about health without addressing our eating habits.  Val talks about intuitive eating and lists her new dietary goals.  Great tips for everybody, really.  Over at Vegan Epicurean they’ve got some nutrition tidbits going on.  I have only one question for you: have you eaten your leafy greens today?  Get to it then!

I’m so excited, I’m so excited, I’m so excited that we are half way through the month and I continue to get inspired.  Keep it up, MoFos!

Saturday's Random Roundup 10/10

Saturday's Random Roundup 10/10

Hello MoFos!  I hope everybody had a wonderfully spectacular Saturday.  Today’s roundup has no particular theme but tons of droolworthy posts and a bit of awesome ideas.

Lately I find myself obsessed with pantries.  I like to see what people keep in theirs and how they store spices and whatnot.  I often get ideas this way (about organization, storing, and essentials).  Today I realized that I need to up my flour game because Jessy has a bazillion gluten free flours in her pantry!  Share what you keep in yours over at her blog, HappyVeganFace.

We all know a pantry isn’t a pantry without all the items.  So, Joni from Just the Food tells us where we can get all the good stuff for cheap!

CheapFinds

Good deals are nothing to frown upon.  This time of year brings out my supreme love of sweet potatoes because they are super cheap and very delicious.  It looks like I’m not alone.  Brittany whipped up a sweet potato and broccoli salad while Sam documented her first time in the world of sweet potater makin’.  Gotta love the fall.

sweetpot&broccolisalad

As the weather changes, it seems like many are turning to comfort foods.  Ever feel like cooking with the Sopranos?  How about making perfect macaroni?  Or is your thing maybe some raw pasta in under 5 minutes?  Whatever comforts you, there is plenty to go around.  Oh, and I’d totally love to live in this mac n’ cheeze.  Please gaze upon it in all its glory:

Mac n Cheese

The two most interesting things I saw today were definitely scrambled polenta and mini s’mores.  That’s right: a polenta scramble with mushrooms and shallots.  See how Mandee did it over at CupcakeKitteh.  And as a lover of all miniature things, I really want to make these adorable little s’mores.  They’re made with Annie’s Bunny Grahams!

Such a lovely ending to a lazy Saturday.  Week 2 and we’re still going strong.  Keep it up, y’all!

Tip or Treat Roundup Thursday 10/08

Tip or Treat Roundup Thursday 10/08

Right now, I stand at the top of the MoFo mountain.  As of the start of this roundup, I’ve caught up on every single blog entry.  Phew.  Y’all were making me majorly hungry.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how knowledgeable you MoFos are.  I’ve gotten so many tips on things recently from ways to use baking soda to washing my produce right when I get it home from the store.

gonna wash that sand right outta my leeks

Kelly G. from EasyVegan blogged about 1, 001 ways to eat oatmeal.  So many ideas!  Oatmeal is no longer the thing to settle for.  And say you want to spice up your oatmeal or any meal for that matter(chuckle)…Dianne has some wonderful tips on what to do with spices.  She also gets major points for the best blog title of the day.

Hey, maybe you can put some of those spices in your vegan emergency kit.  Whaaat?  Don’t have one yet?  Well, visit VeganSoapBox and check it out.  You never know when you’ll need a good bouillon cube.  Speaking of emergencies, there’s a pumpkin shortage!  So don’t be surprised if they are all out of the good ol’ canned stuff at your grocery store.  Kristin from Beans And Greens wants you to know that it isn’t so hard to make your own puree.  Check out these pumpkin guts:

IMG_2408

You can’t get that from a can.  You know what you can get from a can?  Calcium, depending on its source.  Check out Eat. Run. Do Yoga.’s information on calcium in a vegan diet.

Ooh!  I almost forgot the treats, with all this wonderful information flying around.  Are you in the mood for some banana split bread or banana coconut ice creamTahini cookies?  Maybe you’re feeling something a bit more savory.  You should take a look at Mittenmachen’s roasted chickpeas and try not to drool.

Well, that’s the end of this roundup.  One week of VeganMoFo is done!  I’ll raise my invisi- glass to more future awesomeness.  Now, show me your pantries!!!

VeganMoFo Roundup for Thursday 10/01

VeganMoFo Roundup for Thursday 10/01

Well, the day is officially here!!!  Can you smell the awesome?  The vegan blogosphere is alive and kicking right now.  I’ve been reading glorious things for the past few hours and have decided that this year’s VeganMoFo is going to be epic.  So, why not show a little love to some of the MoFo virgins?  Because ain’t no party like a newbie party…

Lauren got things in full swing by starting the first MoFo survey.  I’m sure every blog will have it posted before month’s end.  So go ahead and fill it out already.  We want to learn more about you…but not in a creepy way.

Remember how it was when you first became a vegan?  Well, Carl and Yvonne share their memories of those days.  Plus, we even have a MoFoer who is turning vegan just for this event!  Who says we don’t make things happen?  We are movers and shakers up in here.  Better recognize, sucka!

Kim proves there is life beyond cheese over at C’est La Vegan.  Meanwhile, Keeryah is putting those cookbooks to the test like many of us need too.  Raise your hand if you are addicted to cookbooks but always forget to cook from them.  Now is the perfect time to dust them off and show us whatcha got!

Goats-Cheese

If you happen to be one of the many people still searching for a theme, here are some of my favorites: 31 Days of Cupcakes, ABCs of Vegan Goodness (a new food item for each letter of the alphabet…I can’t wait to see what’s happening for the letter “X”), and Creativity and Adaptation (creating new recipes or veganizing omni classics).

Before wrapping things up, I’d like to extend a special thanks to all the newcomers!  Everything has been so inspiring thus far.  And thanks to every person who participated this year!  The internet better get ready for what we are bringing.  So while you blog about vegan yummies, just ask yourself this: how much cooler would it be to eat your favorite meal in a bus?  You should definitely check out the review of Rootmaster on Intellectual Blackout.

bus restaurant

Now go forth and spread the word about veganism!  And remember to give your eyes a little rest from all the deliciousness.  Happy MoFoing, y’all!
