Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 20.34.57Veg-am, Completely Board    Dawn used old Pinterest recipes all month, veganizing them and making some gluten free.  I have a folder full of bookmarked recipes I haven’t used so I love the idea of going through them and making them for a month.

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 20.35.22 New Orleans in Green  Melissa posted a full month of influences on New Orleans food with some recipes. A great history tour!

The 2014 MoFie Awards! Round One…

The 2014 MoFie Awards! Round One…

Hey there MoFo’s! Jojo here and I’m super excited to be bringing the MoFies back atcha for 2014! Your team of MoFo organisers has been hard at work reading blogs all month (just like you have!) and after much deliberation and even a little voting we’ve picked just some of our favourites.

We also want to thank every single one of you for participating, reading and commenting throughout the month. Without you MoFo wouldn’t exist and we think you’re all amazing. We’ve all loved scrolling through our preferred readers (I’m a Digg kinda grrl these days) and devouring your posts throughout the month; whether you were posting pictures of your cats photo-bombing your food shoots, celebrating anniversaries or taking us on your vacations we’ve loved every second. Without you MoFo wouldn’t exist and we think you’re all amazing.

This is just round one, round two will be posted tomorrow and round three will be coming your way the day after that. Every single one of our winners will receive a prize from MoFie sponsors The Raw Chocolate Co. Uh huh, you heard that right, prizes! We’re kicking it up a notch this year!

RCC logo vector-hiresIf you see yourself here just drop us an e-mail (many links to the address can be found here) with the subject headline MoFie and your address deet’s and we’ll get your prize in the post.

Without further ado I present The 2014 MoFie Award Winners…

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.36.09Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 19.37.14Most Ridiculous Theme goes to Hasta La Vegan for her Bizarre and Outdated Cookbooks theme which was HILARIOUS. Seriously, most of the cookbooks were ridiculous (Pineapple Party Time anyone?) and some of the recipes from those cookbooks (see above!) were even more ridiculous. Hilarity ensued almost every day and I found myself cheering when she made something that actually looked edible! Hasta La Vegan also posted 32 times during the month which kinda deserves it’s own award!

epic_650x15015300469832_d565196dac_zMost Epic Post goes to Kelly from Easy Vegan for her All the Bacon and Eggs I Have post which was part of her (totally epic) Carbs & Recreation theme. If you’ve seen Parks and Recreation you know how often food gets mentioned and if you haven’t seen Parks & Rec what are you waiting for? It’s hilarious! Ron Swanson’s “just give me all the bacon and eggs you have” line is a classic and props to Kelly for veganising this one with all of the vegan bacon and eggs she had!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.36.34OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABlog That Made Us Want to Jump on a Plane goes to Mammi for her adventures in Finnish Coffee Culture. Her posts on the Finnish Coffee Table had us rapt all month and I know I seriously considered purchasing a plane ticket and popping over to eat some of the delicious treats this blogger was whipping up in the kitchen. The Åland Pancake (shown above) was a particular favourite of mine and I loved the daily random facts, I felt like I was learning something about Finland as well as gazing at food which was super cool.

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.36.58IMG_3997-e1409956930397-300x225Most Epic Journey goes to Vegan Nom Noms. I know first hand how hard it is to blog from the road sometimes and Nicole kept it up all month. Nicole currently lives in Germany but she spent September road tripping across the USA, she was in Atlanta, Portland, Austin, New Orleans and a tonne of other places and she found that delicious looking box of chocolates in Anchorage, Alaska. Nice one Nicole!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.37.11Speedy_Delivery_600x900The Community Spirit award goes to Cadry of Cadry’s Kitchen for organising the Speedy Delivery Postcard Swap. We loved the idea of this international event and people were sending postcards, letters and packages all over the place. It was so great to watch!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.37.31ImageMost Mouthwatering Instagram Account goes to kippysnacks. For the first year ever we opened up MoFo participation to our Instagram friends, some people went Instagram only and some people used it alongside their blogs. I was the person re-posting some of the things that caught my eye on the official VeganMoFo Instagram account so I was all up in your pictures and one account that really stood out was Kip’s. She was posting pictures from the Vegetarian Festival in Thailand as well pictures of food she’d been eating at home in London interspersed with hostel kitties and more. Great work!

That’s it for today folks, check back tomorrow for round two!

Most Fantastic How-to goes to Sugar Skull! Kristin made her blog’s namesake (SUGARSKULLS!) and held our hands through each step.

Best Theme goes to Don’t Eat Off The Sidewalk for her amazing Dinner And A Horror Movie theme. Katie kept us laughing and screaming and eating all month, while still managing to blog here and do the Iron Chef Challenges. Maybe she wins best Mofo-er overall?

The Fifth Annual Mofie Awards! Round Two…

The Fifth Annual Mofie Awards! Round Two…

Well, we are actually going to split these awards into 3 posts so that each recipient may basque in the glow of winnerdom. Here we are in Round Two of the Fifth Annual Mofie Awards. Give everyone a round of applause! A standing O! Or a standing V?

Best Photo

Best Photo goes to these Pumpkin Pancakes at VK Rees Photography. This tall stack of pancakes had us opening up our mouths in hopes that some syrup would fall in.

Post Most Like To Inspire Frying goes to Olives For Dinners’ Faux Fish And Real Chips! How badly do you want to squeeze lemon over everything and gobble up the screen?

Best Cat goes to Joyfulgirl’s inaugural MoFo post. Nothing says adorable like a kitten being terrorized by a huge container of pumpkin puree.

Best Childhood Recipe Recreation goes to i-40 Kitchen’s Sausage Balls! Because we all get a hankering for that food we loved when we were seven.

Most Droolworthy Speedy Dessert goes to Madcap Cupcake’s Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream. The only equipment needed for this decadence is a blender, and for that she deserves 10 awards!

That does it for Round Two of the Mofies. Stay tuned for Round Three…
PS Winners: please email us so that we can get you a small banner for your blog’s sidebar.

The Fifth Annual Mofie Awards! Round One…

The Fifth Annual Mofie Awards! Round One…

Ok, it’s actually the first annual Mofies. But we’ve been talking about doing an awards ceremony for five years, and that counts for something, doesn’t it?

Our methods for determining Mofie recipients were ground in rock solid, airtight science. We used an intricate method that analyzes all of the available datas and scrutinized algorithms. And then we said “Fork this!” because really, everything was getting too complicated which is why we’ve never gotten around to creating the awards before. So, instead we went with the k.i.s.s. method. Keep it simple, stupid! Each VeganMoFo organizer created two categories and chose the winner. After all, no one knows MoFo like we do!

And from the bottom of our vegan hearts we want to thank all of the MoFo participants. It was so much fun to scroll through our feeds and read what you had to say all month. Whether it was a fun story about road-tripping it just to eat your favorite pizza or a tender story about recreating your Nana’s meatballs vegan-style, we were right there with you.

This is round one of winners, we’ll post the second round later today. And we do have one more category that will be chosen by YOU the readers, so stay tuned for news on that. Winners, please contact us so that we can send you a small banner to use on your sidebar.

Now, without further ado, we bring you MOFOS OF THE YEAR!!!

Best Use Of Tofu goes to Vegans Eat Pencil Shavings for her Pan Fried Vegan Oysters with Chili Lime Pomegranate Molasses. What an amazing use of vegan seafood, agar and all.

Jojo

Blog That Convinced Us To Go To A Superbowl Party goes to Jojo at Vegan In Brighton for her awe-inspiring Football Food Sunday posts. We loved to read about each finger licking item this Brit cooked up for her American football feasts.

Best Way To Support Farm Sanctuaries
goes to My Zoetrope for her charity watercolors that raised money for For The Animals Sanctuary. We loved all the bears and cats and talking sandwiches she produced all month, and a few of her paintings might even reside in our kitchens now!

Best Use Of Pumpkin goes to Kathy at Busy Vegan for her Pumpkin Spice Cheap-o-chino. She served us autumn in a glass in and it costs only pennies. And for that we are forever thankful.

Most Impressive Food Project goes to Fork And Beans for her monthlong adventures in vegan and gluten-free candy making! From Snickers to Butterfingers, Cara kept us coming back for more.

Best International Dish goes to Vegan On The Prowl’s South Indian Gunpowder. Rithika gave us a condiment that’s just great for elaborate dosas or simple veggies, and might also take honor for best use of chickpeas.

That does it for round one. Catch up with us later on for round two of the Fifth Annual Mofie Awards!
