  1. Chickpeas are my favorite… because of hummus obviously, and the name of the magazine, but also because they taste good, and because you can make soccas with the flour!

  2. Soybeans because so many of my favorite vegan products are made with them…though lentils are a close second, because I love me some lentil soup! (US)

  3. Chickpeas are by far the most versatile legume in my pantry – from chana masala to hummus to chickpea salad to the many uses of gram (chickpea) flour.

  4. Lentils and chickpeas are my two favorites because they are so versatile!

Lentils in tacos, shepherd’s pie, lentil gravy, lentil soup, etc.

Chickpea gravy, chickpea salad, scramble, cutlets, hummus, chickpea everything!!!

    I’m an international reader 🙂

  5. I love the humble soya bean
    And all it can become
    Tofu, tempeh sausages
I put them in my tum!
It is by far the best legume
    Ahead of all the rest
The soya bean, it rules supreme
    It simply is the best

    (International)

  6. Oh so hard to choose. Lentils and Chicpeas definitely. But also navy beans because they are such a good base for so many things. Domestic reader here.

  7. Definitely Salvadorian red beans because while I’ve been vegan for a few years now, I can continue to make Nicaraguan gallo pinto just like my mom. 🙂

But of course you can’t beat a simple chickpea avocado mash on toast for a lazy meal!

  8. If peanuts are botanically legumes, then I’m on their team! Peanut butter makes my world go round.
    (International)

  9. Lentils because they’re so quick and easy to make from scratch! But also black beans because they taste yummy!! US reader.

  10. It’s hard to say, it’s between chickpeas and borlotti beans. I’d say borlotti if I have pick only one 🙂

    Currently in Germany, thanks 🙂

  11. Chick peas are my absolute favourite. They are so versatile. You can make hummus, burgers, salads, curries. They taste amazing with spices but they are also so good on their own so that is why they are my favorite.

I live in Canada so I am international. 🙂

  12. Peanuts! I personally think of them as a nut, but I know this is one of the most fought over subjects next to if the chicken or the egg came first. If a day goes by where I don’t get my peanut butter, then everyone I encounter better take cover. How do those paleo dieters do it?!

  13. i love adzuki beans! i had them in sweet pastries often, but i’ve been enjoying them in a savory way by simply slow cooking them. so good!

  14. So hard to choose! I’m also going with chickpeas, just because of how versatile it is. Chickpeas… what can’t they do?! (USA)

  15. Oh, I adore Chickpea Mag! Their website is so great. My favorite legume is hands down lentils. Lentils every day!

    (I’m a US resident!)

  16. Aubergine aka Eggplant! You can make vegan bacon, lasagnas, breaded it, hamburgers, salads, stews, spreads, smoke it, fry, slow cook… oh aubergine

(I am internation – Netherlands Hiya!)

  17. I love beans. I think my favourite would be kidney beans, closely followed by chickpeas. I don’t see so many kidney beans in American recipes though so I wonder if it’s just a Europe thing!

I’m “International” (I feel so exotic)

  18. U.S.! And, I’m completely undecided here…ack! Love them all. In a mixed bean salad or soup I always go for the big butter beans first though, so I’ll go with those!

  19. It’s got to be soy beans….they make so many of my favourite things! But also chickpeas and baked (haricot) beans. All legumes are rad. (UK)

  20. Peanut butter!!! Not that I don’t want to try, but I could probably eat a whole jar in one sitting.

  21. of course, garbanzos! <– that's the west coast in me. Now that I live in New England, they're chickpeas.

  22. My favorite legumes are black-eyed peas. I make Hoppin’ John with them, sausages and Indian food. They are perfect for everything.

  23. I’ll a U.S. Southern Belle, loving Black-eyed peas; been eating them all my life. Easy to grow, easy to cook, versatile, good hot or cold. Next up, chickpeas for obvious reasons, hummus and garbanzo bean flour! Lentils – so soothing in soups. Peanuts – peanut butter and my mother’s family is from Georgia. Full disclosure, though, my taste buds have yet to savor an unliked legume.

  24. This ones international answer to “favorite legumes” is chickpeas. Good on their own, made into hummus or cookie dough dip. You name it: VERSATILE…

  25. Chickpeas! So versatile that we eat them nearly every day…in hummus of course, tossed onto a salad, smooshed up/spiced as taco filling, roasted/spiced, as an ingredient in many vegan stews…love them! Thanks for the chance. 🙂 (US)

  26. I love brown lentils. I cook them with some salt and pepper until it becomes thick and creamy. Then I add fresh lemon juice to it and eat a big bowl of it. I have them all winter long (almost every night).

    (US)

  27. Surprise surprise, chickpeas are my favorite legume! So versatile, so delicious. Roasted spiced chickpeas for life.
    (US)

  28. Oh my goodness, I really can’t choose between lentils, chickpeas and soybeans! Lentils are great in curries or for homemade veggie burgers, but I also LOVE making hummus! And lately I’ve been really into eating toasted edamame as a snack, and one of the few vegan options my college’s d-hall offers. (US) Love the site and mag! 🙂

  29. chickpeas because they have so many uses, hummous, curry, stews, chilli, flour, soup….the list goes on! Im an international reader. 🙂

  30. It’s so hard to decide, I have a love for all legumes. Chickpeas, soybeans, lentils, peanuts; all have no problem holding center stage in a bunch of great vegan dishes.

    US reader

  31. (International). Oh for the love of black lentils. Mix with arugula, goat cheese, and beets. The love goes round.

  32. Chickpeas are without a doubt my favourite, you can normally find around 6 or 7 cans, or some sort of related food item with accompanying chickpea ingredient in it whether it be in my kitchen at home or university halls. The first time chickpeas entered my life was a disastrous attempt to make hummous with my mum when I was about 10, we’d never even heard of it before let alone made it, and it somehow managed to break our food processor, but that didn’t deter us from this majestic of legumes and we continued on with our adventures with Chickpeas and all other meals to this day have been extremely successful! (However we have elected to buy store bought hummous ever since that incident!) They really are an integral part of my food life and I probably would die without them, literally.
    (International, UK)

  33. Black beans!!! They may be the most boring bean to some but they’re so delicious and you can throw them in anything!!!

    Reader from the states

  34. Eggplant for sure, in all sorts of shapes and flavors, even sweet (really, to die for!). I eat it almost every day.

    – Lisa (international reader)

  35. Cactus! Not only the flower, but the whole plant. Makes me think of beautiful Mexico, ¡ai ¡ai ¡ai!

    (Intern.)

  36. I absolutely love Dragon’s Tongue Beans! Their gorgeous color makes them seem more appetizing than other legumes! Of course, cooked, they lose their bright purples and pinks. So I like them raw; whole or chopped! But they’re delicous cooked as well! They can be used as with any other beans, but my, these are beauties! (US)

  37. I love pinto beans because I just can’t get enough of Mexican food! Whether it’s chilli con carne or burritos, they all come stuffed with some yummy beans!

    (UK Residentl)

  38. CHICKPEAS! Other than the obvious hummus reason. I eat these bad boys plain right outta a can! It’s a serious relationship we’re in.

  39. I love lentils! it has a great variety of colors! It just makes me feel as an artist! You just need to create different patterns:) and also the taste is perfect!!!

  40. It must be broad beans (fava) for me, especially the fresh ones, but dry will also do, with some garlic and olive oil. And second favourite is humble butter bean, paired with salvia 🙂 (international)

  41. Oh, this is a tough one. I think I’d have to say the soybean. It’s tofu, it’s tempeh, it’s milk. It’s edamame. Sure, a lot of people are afraid of or allergic to it, but for many of us, it’s a vital and delicious source of complete protein. Long live the soybean! (U.S.)

  42. (US). Wow, beans are such a huge part of my daily life it’s hard to pick a favorite… I would have to say it’s a tie between chickpeas and pintos. Chickpeas are so versatile and pintos are so comforting. For any other lovers of the mighty pinto, you need to try the Rio Zape from Rancho Gordo. So rich and amazing. Thanks for this giveaway. I love chickpea magazine!!

  43. I’m not even lying – look at my blog! – but my all-time legume obsession even one of my favourite foods in general are chickpeas. So much so that I start getting anxious once I’m down to two cans in my pantry.
    (International/ European reader)

  44. (US)

Favs beans. I think fava bean hummus and fava bean felafel may(!) be better than chickpea.

  45. Chickpeas are my favorite!!!!! I’ve been eating nothing but felafel for like a month. So easy and delicious! (Canada)

  46. This is a tough one, but I would have to go with lentils (I’m not going to say a color, because I can’t pick favorites). I live in the US.

  47. Chickpeas….*Drool*
I’d love to share this magazine with all the Veg heads in the East Coast of Canada !

  48. Snow peas are one of my absolute favorites. I grew up in Asia and we always used to have them in stir-fry dishes. Having just moved to Philadelphia, I realized it’s common to eat them uncooked in salads—it takes some getting used to, but I love them all the same. (US reader)
