GIVEAWAY from Capital City Bakery

GIVEAWAY from Capital City Bakery

UPDATE 9/10 Giveaway is closed

If you haven’t been lucky enough to try Capital City Bakery‘s delicious treats, part of me thinks that your better off for never having known true bliss. I first met the owner, Kristen, through putting on bake sales in Austin. Not only would Kristen always donate a generous amount of cupcakes, but, they were also the most tasty and the most beautiful of all the cupcakes at the sale. She made it super easy to raise a ton of money for all sorts of good causes. When she started her own bakery trailer I couldn’t have been more thrilled because this meant access ALL THE TIME. The trailer has been such a success that she has plans to open a full on brick and mortar store and they are going to have Sunday brunch too! There is even a kickstarter which you should totally contribute too (one of the prize packages is specifically for out of towners) or watch the movie to learn all about it and see how cute she is! Or you can follow her on instagram if you like being tortured with food porn.

Capital City has been generous to giveaway a couple of her glorious brownies for you veganmofo-ers! These are the same brownies that were at Vida Vegan Con this year and you will have one bite and say, “What the hell makes the brownies so decadently good”? Kristen says it’s magic and I pretty much believe her.

TO ENTER all you have to do is comment below with a link to someone’s veganmofo post that has a recipe for brownies, blondies, or any other delicious baked good. It doesn’t have to be one of yours but it does have to be from 2013’s veganmofo and you must have a US address to send the brownies too. Two lucky winners will be chosen randomly out of eligible posts at noon CST 9-10-2013

International Sunday

International Sunday

Panda here this Sunday and every Sunday for your Vegan MoFo good time round up.

There’s an abundance of people joining in MoFo this year blogging in different languages and in different countries. I wanted to highlight some of them in my Sunday roundup because I love seeing vegans representing world wide.

In German is Seitan is My Motor, who is spending the month veganizing classic German desserts, such as these cinnamon rolls.

These beautiful potatoes are from the Dutch blog Plantaardigheidjes and I love how thinly sliced they are. The color is just gorgeous.

rote+emma+hasselback+02Emmas Vegoblogg in Sweden is serving up some Indian spiced pasta which sounds mighty fine.

20130908-indiskpastaFrom Vietnam is Viet Nam an Chay with a gorgeous pile of stir fried veggies. This looks so fresh and good, perfect for summer in the US.

raucuxao-1Interpretations Culinaires is blogging in both French and English and has some super looking tempeh nuggets up. If you put it in nugget form I will try it.

Saturday Round Up: Election Edition

Saturday Round Up: Election Edition

No matter where you are, if you’re a politics geek like me then you’ll know that the sun rose on a pretty different Australia this morning. Last night was election night, and no matter how you feel about the outcome, there’s no denying that there have been some pretty major changes. In true Australian style, social media was abuzz- not so much with opinions about our new Prime Minister, but more about which polling station was offering the best cake stall or barbecue. So with the relationship between politics and a free feed in mind, I thought I’d see how some of my favourite blogging locals prepared for their election night.

Kate at The Spade and Spoon got passionate about foreign aid cuts (a girl after my own bleeding heart!) and reflected her views on the candidates by making these vegan devils on horseback appetisers.

devils on horsebackSandy from Vegans Eat Yummy Food Too put my junk food feast to shame with her healthy baked and blistered potato chips, as part of her great vegan bake-off theme. Perfect for watching the votes roll in on TV!

DSC01294Keely has been preparing some amazing-sounding Egyptian food over at Gormandize this month. I’d probably been feeling a bit more chipper this morning if I’d had a pitcher of her orange blossom lemonade last night, rather than a case of beer.

Johanna from Green Gourmet Giraffe got deservedly outraged about the lack of vegan and gluten free options at polling booth sausage sizzles, and went home to whip up some sausages that we can all enjoy.

Elections CollageLinda at The Lentil Institution got through election night with the help of some healthy vegan comfort food– lentil burgers, baked potatoes and pumpkin with dukkah, and a rainbow salad… perfectly paired with a Coopers sparkling, of course. The beer helped Linda to look on the bright side, namely the re-election of a couple of great advocates for the ban on live animal export.

Lastly, Vegan in Melbourne embraced the election day sunshine and spring weather and put together these beautiful tofu rice paper rolls. I need to detox after my ‘eating my feelings’ binge last night and I can’t think of anything that looks more perfect than these.

Take care today, Australians! I think more than a few of us are feeling a bit delicate (read: hungover), so head outside for a pick-me-up beverage of choice in the sunshine. At least we’ve all still got that, right?

Friday Round Up: Pretty in Pink…and Red

Friday Round Up: Pretty in Pink…and Red

Howdy MoFos!  Mo here, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this seventh edition of Vegan Month of Food.  Today’s round up is brought to you by adorable foods.  Sometimes food just makes me squeal with delight.  Today, I found myself gravitating to foods that had pink and/or red in them.

Over at Vegan Bento Love, I found myself mesmerized by the cute baby pandas dancing around in strawberry fields!  And look at that tofu!  Yummers!

Something about strawberries was really catching my eye today, so I instantly fell in love with Luminous Vegans’ strawberry milk.  As a kid, that stuff was my jam!  This is so much better for you than the powdered stuff.  Plus, it’s oh-so-pretty.

Oh, and to prove I’m not just into strawberries, this cute looking bruschetta had me salivating.  Fig Lane says it has garlic, tomatoes, mushrooms, basil, chives, and hemp oil.  Mmm.

Okay.  I love me some beets.  I find using beet juice as a way to color pasta to be pretty freaking genius.  Check out Canned Time’s fresh basil beet pasta.

Finally, Glue and Glitter is speaking my language!  Girl is straight up making watermelon gin fizzes up in here!  Whaaaat?  You know that’s right.

Well, that’s all for now!  What’s your favorite pink or red dish?  Happy Friday, y’all!

Round Up – Review style!

Round Up – Review style!

Although themes and cooking and taco cleanses are all fun, one thing I love to see on vegan blogs is reviews. I rely on them heavily when I actually get to go to a health food store and want to buy all of the new things, and reviewing the vegan options in your town are probably going to help at least one person who’s googling ‘vegan options in Tiny Town, Flyover State, USA’.

Kate visited Vegan Haven while in Seattle and givers her opinion on some of the small goodies she brought home.

Over at This Vegan Mouth there are multiple reviews for local dishes in Portland, including this amazing looking bowl!

I don’t have a Costco anywhere near me, but East Meets West Veg gives us a tour of hers that shows that if I happen across one, I will be more than satisfied with the vegan options.

Carrie has a review of Soy Curls, which may be old news to most people but I still cannot get them here and when I ask about them in health food stores the people who work there have never heard of them. If you’re semi-new to veganism, they’re definitely worth seeking out or ordering online.

I used to be a big fan of the Morningstar Farms pockets, pre-vegan and when they still existed, so this review from F*@! Yeah Vegan Pizza for the new Tofurky Pockets made me go ‘yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!’. Everything in pockets, please.

One of my favorite foods is, no kidding, cereal. Afro Vegan Chick reviewed a chocolate granola cereal that makes me want to eat a big bowl while watching cartoons in my underwear (typical Friday night, really).

I haven’t eaten meat in 20 years, so I really have no concept of what it tastes like anymore or if faux meats are close enough, so I always think it’s interesting when a meat eater, or in this case a still fairly new vegan like Suzanne, thinks of them. (P.S. The Gardein chik’n sliders are AMAZING.)

Ty has a quick review of flax seed milk (which I am grossly fascinated by and really want to try), and the So Delicious greek-style yogurt, which may or may not tide you over until the great vegan yogurt shortage comes to an end.

And last but certainly not least, the king of vegan product reviews has a ‘you probably would assume this isn’t vegan’ review in the form on these new Kettle chips! Flavored chips frequently have milk in them, and some of the more ‘natural’ kind include honey, so it’s good to know that we have a few more flavors to choose from!

Have you reviewed any products for VeganMoFo that I didn’t see?  Feel free to post a link in the comments!  And send me a bag of those chips, if you can get them.

Baked: day 4 round up

Baked: day 4 round up

Hello hello! It’s my first year helping out with the official VeganMoFo blog and today I’ve spied lots of delicious looking baked goods.

First up are some amazing, and uniquely flavoured cupcakes at The Vegan Kitchen of Dr CaligariEggplant Parmigiana cupcakes!

And while we’re talking about savoury baking, here’s a lovely olive loaf baked by Emily at Triumph Wellness.

Onto the sweets! Let’s start with an individually-sized apple tea cake, served up by Vegan in Melbourne.

I’m sure we’ll still have room for a bite-sized pumpkin doughnut baked by Kelly at Easy Vegan.

How about a lavender lemon scone baked by Jeni at Thyme & Love. Splitsies?

And something spicy to finish us off: Mexican hot chocolate snickdoodles over at Tracey’s Living Cookbook.

Giveaway – Goody Good Stuff

Giveaway – Goody Good Stuff

We have our winners! Congratulations Babette and Rachael, we’ll be in contact soon.

You can tell that we’re well and truly into the spirit of MoFo when we start throwing out prizes left right and centre and today we have our very first. This giveaway comes all the way from UK based vegetarian company Goody Good Stuff whose sweets I just happen to love.

Goody Good Stuff’s gummy sweets are made without artificial colours or flavours and are gluten and nut free.  We have two giant multi bags each containing 32 little packs of sweets to give away today and the competition is open to anyone worldwide. I have to admit to being a little jealous because this bag includes my favourite sour cherry sweets which you can’t even buy in individual packets yet!

-1

As Goody Good Stuff are based in England I thought I’d give this competition a fun little English twist!

To enter you just need to name one English blogger taking part in Vegan MoFo this year. Naming my blog is cheating! Leave your answer in the comments below by 4pm BST tomorrow. Please make sure to include a valid e-mail address so that we can get in contact with you. The winner will be randomly selected and announced after the giveaway has ended. This competition is open worldwide.

A Little of This & A Little of That: Tuesday MoFo RoundUp

A Little of This & A Little of That: Tuesday MoFo RoundUp

I do declare that the seventh annual Vegan Month of Foods is off with a bang! It’s another warm day for Portland, OR and it’s got me thinking salad, cold cider, and well, someone else making my dinner. Namely, a little from each of these postings that caught my eye, thanks to spending a little too much time on the RandoMoFo generator throughout the day.

First things first, some breakfast for dinner with the Adventure Time BACON PANCAKES (that yes, call for caps locks and a catchy little autotune jam) from Paula’s amazing Tree Trunks’ Kitchen project…

Moving on to an epic & Vegan French Quarter Muffalatta Sandwich from the Miss Kitchen Witch blog

And I’m constantly digging Hipster Food’s style (and offerings!). This time, it’s a bruschetta-style play on a fried egg.

Adorable Hamantashen Cupcakes with apricot jam for Purim, thanks to Cupcakery Adventures

With a side of Three B Salad over at Grating for Godot

I like this set up.

Despite the heat I will gladly take a bowl of this In Love with Garlic soup from the folks at Fig and Basil. Make that two and a round of toast.

Add a Bee-yooo-tee-ful Eggplant Lasagna with Cashew Cheese from Luminous Vegans

But let me be honest with myself, and everyone reading this. Since my trip to Austin last winter, my heart made room for tacos, and all the talks and photos already of this Tacocleanse is driving me crazy. Here’s Smurfy’s explanatory post of what exactly is going on in Austin this month.

I mean, who’s not planning on making tacos this week now?!

Keep up the tasty work, MoFos!

These Are a Few of My Favourite Themes.

These Are a Few of My Favourite Themes.

Happy first full day of MoFo everyone! Okay, for the people aiming to blog every single day during September this is technically day two but for round up purposes I’m calling it the first day & there’s nothing you can do about it!

As is usual for a Monday morning (um, not really) I got My Favourite Things stuck in my head and then it hit me, favourite themes! What a perfect way to kick off the MoFo round ups. There are no raindrops on roses or cream coloured ponies here but there are some pretty fun themes and probably, knowing vegans, some whiskers on kittens!

Because I have my very own obsession with Mac & Cheese the first theme to jump out at me was Vegan Yack Attack’s Born To Mac with accompanying epic graphic.
9648258175_241c690482Throughout the month Jackie will be posting mac recipes and, if the mouthwatering pictures in her intro post are anything to go by, I can’t freaking wait.

On the subject of epic graphics this one made me fall head over heels in love with Cadry from Cadry’s Kitchen.

Cadry_McFly_Poster-1024x682

Cadry’s Back to the Future themed MoFo will see her using the flax capacitor (see what she did there?!!) to cruise back through space and time and to feast upon meals from other periods of her life. It’s gonna be rad, check it!

Continuing with our tour of US themes my fellow VeganMoFo team mate, Amey, from Vegan Eats & Treats is running with a Noshtalgia theme. She’ll be focussing on re-creating foods that remind her of people she loves.

noshtalgia

I’m already thoroughly enjoying reading the stories Amey’s sharing from her childhood and I don’t mind admitting that this theme totally gives me the warm and fuzzies.

If you’d care to follow me to Canada you’ll see that Crystal and Trevor from Naked Vegan Lunch are going to be imagining that the Seinfeld world was vegan. Yup, you read that right! Seinfeld MoFo!

seinfeld_header

This month we’ll see the blogging duo taking a virtual journey around Manhattan in the 90’s and I for one am excited to see what comes outa their kitchen.

Hopping across the Atlantic ocean to the UK we’ll find Caitlin from The Vegan Word who’ll be blogging with the theme Suitable For (non) Vegans.

Suitable-for-non-vegans

This theme will see Caitlin focussing on showcasing awesome dishes that you can use to introduce the non-vegans in your life to vegan food. Such a great idea and I bet it’ll be helpful for a tonne of people.

If we continue onward into Western Europe we’ll find Mihl from seitan is my motor veganising the A – Z of Classic German Desserts.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve been a big fan of Mihl’s writing and recipes (not to mention photography) for longer than I can remember and her MoFo theme is guaranteed to make you wanna get into your kitchen, pull out all of your flours and get baking.

There are so many other awesome themes going on out there in MoFo land, from day of the week themes to month long epics. Sadly we can’t mention them all but do leave your favourites in the comments so that we can check ’em out.
